Hundreds of children mark World Milk Day at Lousada's auditorium
Lousada's Municipal Auditorium hosted an educational morning on nutrition and the dairy sector, run jointly with the Tâmega e Sousa inter-municipal community.
Lousada’s Municipal Auditorium filled with schoolchildren on 1 June for an educational morning that combined the celebrations of World Children’s Day and World Milk Day. Hundreds of pupils took part in activities about the role of dairy in a balanced diet and the value of the region’s dairy industry.
The event was organised by the dairy industry association ALIP together with the Tâmega e Sousa inter-municipal community (CIM) and the Municipality of Lousada. The programme featured “The Milk Cycle”, a presentation led by teacher and musician Filipe Lopes with interludes of stage magic, explaining in a playful way how milk travels from pasture to table. Each child was also given an educational book to continue the learning at home and at school.
The session was attended by Lousada’s mayor, Nelson Oliveira, alongside leaders of ALIP and the Tâmega e Sousa CIM, who highlighted the dairy sector’s importance to the region and the value of teaching healthy eating from an early age.
