AIMA says the mountain is shrinking: 525,000 cases already decided
The agency and its task force say more than half a million files have had a decision. Good news for those waiting — but patience still counts.
Anyone who has sat through the wait on an AIMA case knows the knot in the stomach of having no answer. The latest update brings some breathing room: the agency and the task force set up to tackle the backlog say decisions have now been made on more than 525,000 files, with around 763,000 appointments completed across various categories and close to 473,000 cases ending with a positive outcome.
What changes in practice
These are numbers that finally point the right way. For months, AIMA’s image was one of queues, phones that went unanswered and deadlines slipping. Seeing more than half a million cases resolved suggests the extraordinary effort is bearing fruit, even if slowly.
But go easy on the optimism
Not everything is solved. Recent strikes pushed appointments further out again, and people who entered the system later still face long waits. The usual advice holds: keep every receipt, confirm deadlines through official channels, and don’t let documents expire.
The honest read is that the worst may be passing, but the bar only truly drops when each person has their answer in hand. Until then, staying organised is half the battle.
