World Cup Saturday: the day's menu and the job Portugal still has to do
Brazil, Germany, the Netherlands and Türkiye all in action this Saturday. For Portugal, the next chapter is Tuesday against Uzbekistan.
The World Cup doesn’t stop for breath, and Saturday serves up a full table. Brazil take on Haiti, Türkiye meet Paraguay, the Netherlands face Sweden in Houston, and Germany close the day against Côte d’Ivoire in Toronto. If you love football, it’s a watch-from-start-to-finish kind of day — and a few big names who’d rather not slip up.
Sweden, remember, opened the tournament by thumping Tunisia 5-1 and arrive brimming with confidence. The Netherlands drew 2-2 with Japan and need to sharpen up in front of goal. Germany got off to a laughing start with a 7-1 win over Curaçao and go in as clear favourites against the Ivorians.
And Portugal?
Our side sits this Saturday out, but with unfinished business. The 1-1 draw with DR Congo in the opener left a job-half-done feeling — and Cristiano Ronaldo again came off without a goal. The next chapter is Tuesday, June 23, against Uzbekistan in Houston. A win and the whole conversation changes. For today, just warm up the couch.
