Portugal are through — and Colombia decides the rest
The thrashing of Uzbekistan booked their spot. The final Group K game is all about top place and a kinder route.
Good news for the maths lovers (and for those who can’t stand it): you can put the calculator away. With four points on the board, Portugal have sealed their place in the knockout rounds. Main job done.
What’s left to settle is the cherry on top: top spot in Group K. That’s where the final game comes in, against Colombia — one of the toughest sides Portugal could have run into at this stage. Finishing first should, in theory, dodge some of the scariest seeds in the next round. So even with qualification banked, this isn’t a game to coast through with the holidays in mind.
Why it matters
In an expanded World Cup, finishing your group well can save you miles and awkward opponents further down the line. Topping the group usually means a friendlier round of 32. It’s the difference between choosing your path and letting the path choose you.
For now, the headline is simple: Portugal are moving forward, Ronaldo is in form, and the couch can rest until the next whistle. Bring on Colombia — this time without the must-win pressure.
