14 days of romaria in Lamego, and Xutos & Pontapés open it on 27 August
The 2026 Nossa Senhora dos Remédios festival runs from 27 August to 9 September, with Plutónio, Sara Correia and Os Quatro e Meia on the bill alongside the Marcha Luminosa and the Procissão do Triunfo.
Most Portuguese town festivals last a weekend. Lamego’s runs for a fortnight. The festival in honour of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios takes over the city from 27 August to 9 September, and the council has now published the full programme.
The music starts at full volume, with Xutos & Pontapés — Portugal’s most durable rock band — playing on opening night, 27 August. Plutónio, fado singer Sara Correia and, on 4 September, Os Quatro e Meia follow.
The parts that are not concerts
This is where a romaria stops resembling a festival with a stage. The Marcha Luminosa, the Batalha das Flores, the ethnographic parade and the folklore festival all have decades of routine and audiences of their own, and they fill the days between the headline acts.
The centrepiece is still the Procissão do Triunfo, which has come down the city’s streets for more than 130 years and which the council wants recognised as UNESCO intangible heritage.
Where it all happens
The backdrop is the Nossa Senhora dos Remédios sanctuary, at the top of the blue-and-white tiled baroque staircase that has become the picture of Lamego. Climb it on foot at least once, ideally early, before the city fills up.
If you are planning late August around the Douro, two other options overlap: the Feira de São Mateus in Viseu, which runs to 6 September, and Feiras Novas in Ponte de Lima in September.
