This Campo Pequeno date is the first night of Placebo's 30th-anniversary tour
Portugal opens the run on 29 September. The set draws on the 1996 debut and Without You I'm Nothing, with songs the band has not played live in over twenty years. Tickets are 45 to 59 euros.
The odd and rather flattering detail here is that the tour starts in Lisbon. Not London, not Berlin. Placebo picked Sagres Campo Pequeno to open their 30th-anniversary run on 29 September, doors at seven, on stage at eight.
The debut album came out in 1996, when Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal were two very young men with fringes and an unusually fixed idea of what they wanted to sound like. Three decades on, the setlist reaches back to that record and to its successor, Without You I’m Nothing, and the band says it is reviving material it has not performed live in more than twenty years.
What Placebo RE:CREATED means
The tour has a name and a premise. RE:CREATED is a reworking of the first album rather than a note-for-note recital: the arrangements have been rebuilt to sound like the band Placebo are now, not the one that recorded those songs in their twenties. Anyone arriving expecting literal nostalgia may be caught out. Anyone arriving to hear Nancy Boy and Pure Morning will hear them.
Tickets and getting there
Prices run from 45 to 59 euros depending on where you sit, through Ticketline and the usual outlets. Campo Pequeno is one of the easiest venues in the city to reach without a car — the yellow line metro station shares its name and sits at the door, which settles the late-night taxi question before it comes up.
September is busy in Lisbon. The Weeknd plays Restelo earlier in the month, and if you are already looking further ahead, Megadeth come to this same room in April 2027.
