Olivia Rodrigo returns with a third album — and brings Robert Smith along
You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love marks the first guest spot on one of her records. Lead single Drop Dead already hit number one.
Olivia Rodrigo is back — and with a title that already tells you a lot about what’s inside. You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love is the American singer’s third studio album, and it brings a heavyweight first: the first guest appearance on one of her records, none other than Robert Smith of The Cure, on the track What’s Wrong with Me.
What the album has shown already
The signs are good for fans. The first single, Drop Dead, hit number one in five countries, including the UK and the United States, and the second, The Cure, cracked the top 10 in several markets. Anyone who’s followed her since SOUR and GUTS will recognise the formula: pop with bite, sharp lyrics and that blend of fury and vulnerability that made her one of her generation’s voices.
Why it matters
Robert Smith’s appearance is more than a marketing trick: it links one of the biggest pop stars of the moment to an alternative-rock legend, and says a lot about Rodrigo’s musical taste. For Portuguese audiences, who devour international pop, it’s another record to put on repeat this summer.
Pop the headphones on and let it carry you. There are albums to dance to and albums to feel — this one seems to want to be both.
