The Supertaça is on Saturday in Coimbra, and Torreense are going there to ruin FC Porto's party

The 2026 Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira kicks off on 1 August at 20:15 at the Estádio Cidade de Coimbra, live on RTP1. FC Porto and Torreense open the 2026/27 season.

The 2026/27 season officially starts on Saturday, and it starts with a fixture nobody would have written this way a year ago. On one side, FC Porto, national champions. On the other, Torreense, who won the Taça de Portugal and turned an entire season into the kind of story people retell for years.

When is the 2026 Supertaça and what time does it start?

Saturday 1 August, at 20:15. The federation and the clubs confirmed the date and time in early July, and the venue is neutral: the Estádio Cidade de Coimbra, which has gone a long while without a final like this and will fill up for one again.

Where can you watch FC Porto against Torreense?

On RTP1, free to air. No subscription needed, which goes some way to explaining why the Supertaça is still one of the most-watched matches of the Portuguese year even when the result looks pre-written. Tickets went on sale on 22 July through both clubs, with the practical details posted on FC Porto’s official site.

Who goes in as favourite?

FC Porto, and there is no point pretending otherwise. But the Supertaça has an irritating habit where favourites are concerned: it is a one-off, in early August, between teams still finding their legs after a month of pre-season travel and trial runs. Porto drew 1-1 with Hibernian and worked through Birmingham and Aston Villa in their build-up; Torreense arrive with far less noise around them and absolutely nothing to lose, which is the most uncomfortable combination in football.

For the club from Torres Vedras this is a continuation, not a fluke. Winning the cup was enormous. Turning up in a Supertaça against the champions, free to air, on an August Saturday, is the kind of night that puts a club on the map whether the scoreline goes their way or not.

A week later the league itself begins, on 9 and 10 August, and everything returns to normal — the matchdays, the tables, the points dropped in Vila do Conde.
