LISB-ON brings electronic music to green Monsanto this weekend
On 3 and 4 July, Lisbon's green lung swaps silence for beats: house, techno, jazz and soul at an open-air festival.
Some festivals happen in stadiums and some prefer a clearing among the trees. LISB-ON is one of the latter, and it returns to Monsanto on 3 and 4 July to turn Lisbon’s largest park into an open-air dance floor.
The recipe is familiar and still works: electronic music from start to finish, without locking itself to a single style. House, techno, jazz and soul weave through the weekend, with international DJs passing through the various stages set up amid the greenery.
Dancing under the trees
LISB-ON’s real trump card is the setting. Instead of the concrete and dust of a traditional venue, there’s shade, grass and the cooler air of the city’s green lung — a rare luxury in the middle of a Lisbon July. It’s a festival built for spending the whole day, between a set and a break in the shade.
For anyone living in or passing through Lisbon this weekend, it’s a relaxed alternative to the big beach festivals that dominate the summer calendar. Less stadium crowd, more picnic-with-good-music atmosphere.
Before you go
It’s worth checking times and access on the official site, especially since Monsanto is large and getting there isn’t always obvious. Bringing water and comfortable shoes helps too — you’ll be on your feet all day, and dancing.
