The Avengers: Doomsday trailer is out — and Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom steals every frame

Marvel dropped the first Avengers: Doomsday trailer, with Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. It hits theatres in December, with a Comic-Con panel on Saturday.

Marvel finally dropped the bomb fans had been waiting for. The first Avengers: Doomsday trailer is now online, and the internet is fixated on one thing: Robert Downey Jr. is back in the Marvel universe — this time as the villain. The former Iron Man now wears Doctor Doom’s mask, and that first glimpse of the character is the moment nobody could ignore.

The trailer packs a world of heroes into one screen. The Avengers, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men cross paths in a story that, per the official synopsis, sets characters from three distinct universes on a collision course against a threat unlike anything they’ve faced. Directed by the Russo brothers, it’s the kind of star-studded reunion only Marvel dares to attempt.

Who’s in the cast?

The list is huge and mixes generations. Names from the Fox films return — Patrick Stewart as Professor X, James Marsden as Cyclops, Kelsey Grammer as Beast — alongside the new Fantastic Four family, with Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards and Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm. In between come Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd and Tom Hiddleston, among many others.

When does Avengers: Doomsday come out?

The date is set: December 18, 2026, in theatres only. And there’s more for fans this weekend — Marvel takes the film to the Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, where the year’s biggest reveals tend to land. Official details keep updating on Marvel’s site.

It isn’t the studio’s only treat for audiences in 2026: the new Spider-Man is heading for release breaking records, a sign that Marvel is swinging big again.
