BET Awards 2026: Teyana Taylor shines and Lauryn Hill is honoured
Teyana Taylor took Icon of the Year, Lauryn Hill got a star-studded tribute, and Druski became the youngest host ever.
The BET Awards are one of those nights where culture gathers to celebrate its own — and the 2026 edition did not disappoint. The big figure was Teyana Taylor, who took home the Icon of the Year award, the crowning of a career that spent years being underrated and now gets the recognition it deserves.
The tribute of the night
The most moving moment went to Lauryn Hill, celebrated with a star-studded performance that traced the legacy of one of music’s most influential voices. For anyone who grew up with The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, it was a trip back in time — and a reminder of how much her work still weighs.
Hosting duties fell to Druski, the youngest host in the show’s history, who leaned on roasts and skits and risked the irreverent tone that defines his humour. The result: a looser gala than usual.
