Netflix wraps One Hundred Years of Solitude in August and says goodbye to the Pogues
Part 2 of One Hundred Years of Solitude arrives 5 August with seven episodes and a special finale on the 26th. Outer Banks' final season drops on the 20th.
August is usually the dead month in streaming, the one where platforms assume everyone is at the beach. Netflix has gone the other way this year and is closing out two big stories at once.
When does Part 2 of One Hundred Years of Solitude arrive?
On 5 August, with seven episodes. And there is an unusual wrinkle: the adaptation of Gabriel García Márquez’s novel does not end there. The conclusion comes as a separate, standalone chapter running close to feature length, landing in the catalogue on 26 August. It is a format choice that makes sense to anyone who has read the book — that ending does not fit inside a normal episode.
Part one was already among Netflix’s most expensive and most discussed bets in Latin America, shot in Colombia and in Spanish. Getting to the end of the Buendía saga without breaking its back is the test that was left.
What about the final season of Outer Banks?
It premieres on 20 August, and this time all ten episodes drop on the same day, unlike season four, which was split in two. The story opens in Morocco, picking up immediately after the previous finale, with the Pogues dealing with JJ’s death and regrouping for one last treasure hunt. Five seasons in, that is the end of it.
Is any of this worth staying in for?
Depends how sacred your August is. The month’s catalogue also brings a third season of the Polish satirical comedy 1670 and a documentary series on José Mourinho, which for Portuguese viewers is probably the title most likely to start an argument over dinner.
