Ryan Gosling is the new Ghost Rider, and Marvel saved that one for the Comic-Con panel
Marvel announced at Comic-Con 2026 that Ryan Gosling will play Ghost Rider, directed by Shawn Levy and arriving in 2028. Black Panther III also got its news.
Some announcements get saved for last, and Marvel saved this one. On the Hall H stage in San Diego, Kevin Feige confirmed a new Ghost Rider film is coming and that the man wearing the suit, or in this case the flaming skull, is Ryan Gosling.
When does the Ghost Rider film come out?
In 2028, with Shawn Levy directing. There is a nice story behind it too: Gosling said it is a character he has wanted to play for a very long time, and Levy told the crowd the pair spent much of their downtime on Star Wars: Starfighter, out on 28 May 2027, swapping ideas about this exact film. Here we are.
For anyone who grew up with the earlier versions, this is a reset with weight behind it. Gosling is not the obvious casting for the ghost rider, which is precisely why the internet spent the weekend arguing about it.
What else did Marvel announce at Comic-Con 2026?
The panel did not live on Ghost Rider alone. Ryan Coogler confirmed he returns to direct the third Black Panther and introduced David Jonsson as the new Black Panther, playing T’Challa II, the Toussaint of the previous film and T’Challa’s son. It is the studio’s way of continuing the saga without recasting Chadwick Boseman.
Jon Bernthal came out for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and the audience saw an exclusive clip of Spider-Man and the Punisher taking on Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk. On the games side, Insomniac played the story trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine, landing in the same stretch of news as the Avengers: Doomsday trailer that leaked across the internet.
DC, for its part, brought no film slate panel this year. Comic-Con ran from 23 to 26 July, and the full release calendar keeps updating on Marvel’s official site.
