Spider-Man: Brand New Day is in Portuguese cinemas now, with the Punisher and the Hulk in tow

Spider-Man: Brand New Day opened in Portugal on 30 July, starring Tom Holland and Zendaya alongside Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo and Sadie Sink.

It opened on 30 July, it is called Homem-Aranha: Um Novo Dia on Portuguese listings, and it is the reason cinemas here will be full for the first weekend of August. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is showing from Braga to Faro.

Who is in Spider-Man: Brand New Day?

Tom Holland is back in the suit, with Zendaya returning as Michelle Jones and Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds — the trio that has carried this version of Peter Parker since 2017. Destin Daniel Cretton directs, having already made Shang-Chi for Marvel.

The company around them is what changes. Jon Bernthal brings Frank Castle, the Punisher, into the same film as Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner. Sadie Sink joins, familiar to anyone who watched Stranger Things, and Michael Mando finally arrives as Mac Gargan, the Scorpion — a thread left dangling for years and now picked up.

The casting says a lot about the register chosen here: less multiverse, more street level.

Where can you watch it in Portugal?

It is playing across the usual chains — NOS Cinemas, Castello Lopes, Cinemas UCI — in both subtitled and dubbed versions depending on the screen and the showing. Friday and Saturday evenings sell out first, so a Sunday matinee is the civilised option if you would rather not find your seat in the dark.

If you are tracking what Marvel has queued up, this one does not stand alone: the Avengers: Doomsday trailer is already circulating and Comic-Con left several threads hanging. The official cast list lives on the Marvel site.
