Argentina vs Spain in the World Cup 2026 final — Sunday 8pm Lisbon, and it's a first
Argentina and Spain meet in the World Cup 2026 final on Sunday 19 July at MetLife Stadium, 8pm Lisbon time. How they got there, the storylines, and where to watch.
Nearly there. On Sunday at 8pm Lisbon time, at MetLife Stadium, world champions Argentina face European champions Spain — and, remarkably, it is the first time these two have ever met in a World Cup final.
They took very different roads. Spain saw off France with a composed 2-0 sealed by Oyarzabal, while Argentina had to suffer: a goal down against England before roaring back to win 2-1 through Enzo Fernández late on.
Who goes into the World Cup 2026 final in better shape?
Spain arrive fresher, with the meanest defence left in the tournament, but Argentina have made a habit of growing into the big nights — it was true in Qatar and it has been true here. The duel inside the duel is generational: Messi at 39 against Lamine Yamal at 19, the baby he once bathed for a charity calendar — the story of that improbable photo has been everywhere this week.
What time is the final and how can you watch it in Portugal?
Kickoff is 8pm on Sunday 19 July, live on RTP1 and Sport TV — full details, time zones and streaming options are in our guide to watching the final in Portugal. Official line-ups and the match centre are on FIFA’s tournament site.
There is still Saturday’s starter — England and France settle third place in Miami. But let’s be honest: every eye is already on Sunday.
