FC Porto beat Torreense 1-0 in the Supertaça and Froholdt's header settled it

FC Porto won the 2026 Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira 1-0 against Torreense in Coimbra, with a goal from Froholdt. It is the club's 25th Supertaça and the first trophy of the 2026/27 season.

It finished on the smallest possible margin and the biggest possible note: 1-0 to FC Porto, a Froholdt goal, and the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira staying in Coimbra just long enough to change hands. Torreense, who had come to the Estádio Cidade de Coimbra to ruin the party, got close. Not close enough.

The Dane solved the thing the game was really asking for, which was patience. Francesco Farioli’s side held the ball for most of the night, found very little room in the final third, and had to wait for a moment when Froholdt’s head arrived before everybody else’s. Torreense, for their part, did what a second-tier side has to do in a final like this — squeezed the lines, shut the middle and pushed the champions out wide.

Who won the 2026 Supertaça?

FC Porto, 1-0, through Froholdt. It is the club’s 25th Supertaça, a number Porto fans reach for every time the trophy-count argument comes round again. Farioli was blunt about it afterwards: as far as he is concerned, there is no longer a discussion about which club in Portugal has won the most.

Does this tell us anything about the season ahead?

Not much, and quite a lot. The Supertaça is one game, played by squads still shaking off pre-season, and it has never predicted a title. But it is the first trophy of 2026/27, and Porto have started the year in credit — something that took a while last season. Torreense go home with ninety minutes of national television, a near-full stadium and evidence that the gap between the divisions is narrower than the table implies.

Anyone who read our preview with the kick-off time and where to watch already knew Torreense were arriving with nothing to lose. They played like it, and left Coimbra with their heads up. The full competition record sits on the Portuguese Football Federation’s site.

The real season starts now. This one was just for dusting the trophy cabinet.
