FC Porto have gone to Norway for Mame Niang — 1.6 million euros for a 6ft 5in striker
FC Porto agreed a deal with HamKam for Mame Niang, a 20-year-old Senegalese striker. A 1.6 million euro fee, a five-season contract and a 20 million release clause.
FC Porto’s transfer market keeps pointing north. The Dragons have reached an agreement in principle with Norway’s HamKam to sign Mame Niang, a 20-year-old Senegalese striker who stands 1.97 metres tall — and the player is already in Porto to sort out the final details, having flown in on Sunday. Nobody, it seems, wants to waste time.
How much are FC Porto paying for Mame Niang?
The deal comes to 1.6 million euros up front, plus 700,000 in add-ons, with HamKam keeping 15 per cent of a future sale. Niang signs for five seasons, through June 2031, and will be protected by a 20 million euro release clause — the familiar arithmetic of buying cheap with an eye on selling dear.
Who is Mame Niang?
He is a towering, still-raw centre-forward with six goals in 11 games this season in Norway. Porto’s plan is a well-worn one: he will initially move between the first team and the B side, the same development path mapped out for other young signings, much like when the club plucked Pietuszewski out of Poland. The move fits a summer in which Liga Portugal has already smashed its transfer spending record — and in which tall strikers are very much in fashion.
The official announcement should land on the club’s channels in the coming days — formal unveilings tend to appear first on FC Porto’s website. Until then, supporters can do what transfer season does best: dream about what a 20-year-old giant might become.
