Norway vs England: Haaland and Kane collide in the World Cup 2026 quarterfinals

For the first time at this World Cup, the two men leading the Golden Boot race share a pitch. Erling Haaland, on seven goals, meets Harry Kane’s England, on six — and only one of them books a place in the World Cup 2026 semifinals.

When is Norway vs England?

It’s this Saturday, July 11, in Miami, kicking off at 10pm Lisbon time (5pm ET). It’s the third of the quarterfinals, after France booked the first semifinal spot and with Spain and Belgium deciding the second one tonight.

Why is this match historic for Norway?

Because Norway had never reached a World Cup quarterfinal before. Stale Solbakken’s side came through their group behind France and then made history twice over: first with a late Haaland winner against Ivory Coast, then with a dream night from the striker, who scored twice in the 2-1 win over Brazil in the last 16.

England arrive with a different kind of case: unbeaten in five, a midfield that controls territory through Bellingham, and a gritty 3-2 win over Mexico in the previous round. The flip side is harder to ignore — England have conceded in three straight matches, and no team in this tournament breaks faster than Norway.

Haaland against Kane is also a duel between two generations of number 9: the 25-year-old wrecking ball against the 32-year-old surgeon. By Saturday night one of them goes home — and the other is two games from lifting the trophy.

The Champions League draw gave Sporting a home tie with Barcelona and Porto a trip to Anfield

Both Portuguese clubs now know their eight league-phase opponents. Sporting host Barcelona and Manchester United at Alvalade; Porto host Manchester City and Napoli and travel to Liverpool. Kick-off times are due by Saturday.

The opponents are out. The league phase draw was made late on Thursday afternoon at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco, and all 36 clubs learned the eight fixtures that will carry them from September to January.
