Porto answered a Casa Pia penalty with four goals in Rio Maior
Casa Pia led 1-0 through a 43rd-minute Henrique Araújo penalty. Porto equalised in first-half stoppage time and then scored three more, winning 4-1 on the sixth matchday.
For forty-three minutes in Rio Maior, Casa Pia were beating FC Porto. Henrique Araújo scored from the spot and the home side looked like going in ahead. They did not get that far.
André Silva levelled in the third minute of first-half stoppage time, and that goal turned out to be the first of four in a row. Jakub Kiwior made it 2-1 on the hour, Borja Sainz added a third on 67 minutes, and Santiago Giménez converted a penalty deep into stoppage time. Final score: Casa Pia 1, Porto 4.
Three days after a bad Wednesday
Context matters here. On Wednesday, Porto lost 2-0 at home to Manchester City, in a Champions League night Erling Haaland settled at the Dragão. Losing a European tie at home tends to leave a residue. Saturday’s second half suggested it had not.
Casa Pia, who play their home fixtures at the Estádio Municipal in Rio Maior, were not passive about it either. They earned the penalty, they held the lead for the whole of the regulation first half, and they only folded once the game started running in a single direction.
The table is still half-drawn
The round is not finished. Benfica host Gil Vicente and Famalicão host Sporting on Sunday, so the real picture of the Primeira Liga only appears late tomorrow afternoon. What is already settled is that Porto go into that afternoon three points better off than they were at lunchtime.
If you have been following the season from the start, this is the same team that was the only one of the big three to win on the opening weekend. Six rounds in, they keep resolving the fixtures they are supposed to resolve — including the ones they begin by losing.
