Portugal's biggest vegan fair is back in Loulé — three days, 100-plus free activities
FAVA's seventh edition runs from 18 to 20 September at Loulé's municipal park, with a national solar-oven meeting, an organic produce market and a repair-and-reuse zone.
Some fairs are measured in stalls and some in plates. FAVA is the second kind: the organisers expect to serve around five thousand plant-based meals across three days. The seventh edition runs from 18 to 20 September at the Parque Municipal in Loulé, on a site redesigned this year to sit closer to the park’s green areas.
The programme runs past 100 free activities and performances. It is not only food. There are workshops, talks, live music and a wellbeing strand with pilates, yoga, capoeira, dance and tai chi classes through the weekend.
What is new this year
Three things were not in previous editions. The first is a national gathering of solar ovens, which is exactly what it sounds like and considerably more interesting in person than on paper. The second is an organic produce market with growers selling direct. The third is a repair-and-reuse zone, for anyone who would rather bring the broken thing than replace it.
The cooking sessions feature Victoria Ye, known for vegan Asian cooking, the Desafio Vegetariano PT team and Inês Lapa of Nutricionista Explica. For children there are traditional games, chess, creative workshops and activities run with the Casa da Primeira Infância.
Opening hours, and how to plan the day
Friday from 6pm to 11pm, Saturday from 11am to 11pm, Sunday from 11am to 8pm. Friday is an evening rather than a day, so anyone wanting the full programme should aim for the Saturday.
