Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez married in Cascais (and told the world with a photo of two rings)
The civil ceremony took place on Tuesday 11 August, private and heavily guarded, with the couple's children present. Nine years after they met in Madrid, the announcement ran to three characters.
Cascais, in the end. After a month of dates that never firmed up and venues that were denied almost as fast as they were reported, Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez were married on Tuesday 11 August in a private civil ceremony, their children present, security tight enough that nothing leaked until the couple wanted it to.
There was no statement. There was a photograph of two hands, two bands, posted to Cristiano Ronaldo’s Instagram account with a caption of three characters — a C, a heart, a G. Nine years condensed into that.
Why everyone was watching Madeira
Because on Saturday 8 August the story went round that the wedding would be at the cathedral in Funchal. People gathered outside to wait. There was a wedding, and it was not theirs. By the time that was cleared up the rumour had done a full lap of the Portuguese and Spanish press.
Sintra had its turn before that. A television programme produced an invitation pointing to Quinta da Regaleira on 1 August, which a source close to the couple promptly denied. We wrote at the time that none of it was confirmed and that when the news came it would come from their own accounts. It did.
What is actually known
Not much, which looks deliberate. Civil, in Cascais, away from cameras, with the children there. No red carpet. No broadcast. No magazine exclusive. For a couple who have spent a decade being photographed, the restraint is the statement.
He proposed in August 2025 with a ring that generated months of commentary and a “yes, I do” posted by Georgina herself. Ronaldo had said publicly that the wedding would wait until after the 2026 World Cup, which ended on 19 July. He kept to it with three weeks to spare.
Georgina long ago stopped being introduced as somebody’s partner. She walked the Cannes red carpet on her own name, fronts fashion campaigns and carries an audience that owes nothing to football. The ring photograph cleared seven million likes within hours.
Which leaves the question Cascais will be asked all week: where, exactly? Nobody close to the couple is saying. Given what happened in Funchal, waiting beats guessing.
