What roles does the Mota-Engil StartME programme cover?
StartME is in its 13th edition, and it is not only for engineers, even if they take the biggest slice. Civil engineering leads with 87 places and mechanical engineering follows with 49, but the programme also opens up architecture, management, finance and marketing. You can get into a construction group without ever putting on a hard hat.
The geography is what you would expect from a company with this footprint: Angola, Armenia, Brazil, Colombia, Ivory Coast, Spain, Ethiopia, Guinea, Mali, Mexico, Mozambique, Peru, Portugal, Rwanda, Senegal and Uganda. Mexico is the biggest international market with 34 local places, which tells you a fair bit about where the group is growing.
How does the internship work and how long is it?
The programme runs in three stages. First comes Campus, which is the selection process itself. Then the Mota-Engil stage, held at group facilities, designed to settle new arrivals into how the company works. Finally the business-unit stage: 12 months of placement with an assigned mentor, which is usually what separates an internship that counts from one that merely fills a line on a CV.
The company likes to point to the retention rate from earlier editions, which have already taken in more than 1,250 young professionals. Treat that as a signal rather than a promise: an internship is not a contract, but a mentored year inside a business operating across three continents is a better start than most.
