Little House on the Prairie returns July 9: Netflix reinvents the Ingalls classic
Netflix's new Little House on the Prairie premieres 9 July with all eight episodes at once. Alice Halsey plays Laura Ingalls and season 2 is already confirmed.
Half a century after the Ingalls family moved into the television afternoons of millions of homes — Portuguese ones very much included — Little House on the Prairie is back. The new take on the classic premieres on Netflix this Thursday, 9 July, and it arrives the modern way: all eight episodes of season one drop at once, worldwide.
When does Little House on the Prairie premiere on Netflix?
On 9 July, with the full season available on day one. And there’s extra reassurance for anyone afraid of getting attached: Netflix renewed the series for a second season back in March, months before a single episode aired. Official details and the trailer are on Tudum, Netflix’s companion site.
Who stars in the new Little House on the Prairie?
Young Alice Halsey takes on Laura Ingalls, the story’s narrator and soul, with Luke Bracey as Charles (Pa), Crosby Fitzgerald as Caroline (Ma) and Skywalker Hughes as Mary. The series goes back to the source: rather than remaking the 1970s TV version, it adapts Laura Ingalls Wilder’s autobiographical books about a settler family in the 19th-century American Midwest — dust, brutal winters and just the right amount of tenderness.
For Netflix, it’s another card in the strategy of reviving classics with multi-generational audiences. For anyone who grew up on reruns of the original, it’s time travel with a 2026 production budget. And for the kids, probably the discovery that family drama existed before streaming. If this week’s plan was the big screen instead, July is loaded at the cinema too — but the prairie is only a sofa away.
