Lisbon Metro strikes called off, but Friday's CP rail strike is still on
Unions Fectrans and STRUP dropped the partial Metro de Lisboa strikes on 28 and 30 October after an arbitration court set minimum services. The 24-hour strike by CP conductors and ticket staff, called by the SFRCI union, goes ahead on the 30th.
Good news if you take the metro in Lisbon this week. The partial strikes planned for Wednesday 28 and Friday 30 October, from 5am to 10am, have been called off. Less good news if you take the train: the CP strike on Friday is still going ahead.
Metro: business as usual
Metro de Lisboa confirmed the strikes were off on Monday evening. On both days the network opens at 6.30am as normal, with every station running.
This was not a deal. The unions, Fectrans and STRUP, pulled the stoppages after an arbitration court set minimum services, a decision they say puts passengers and staff at risk. The Metro’s board says it remains open to talks.
It has been a bumpy autumn underground. There was already a partial strike on 14 October, after a summer of works that closed stations such as Cais do Sodré.
CP: expect disruption on Friday
On the railways it is a different story. The conductors’ union, SFRCI, has called a 24-hour strike for Friday 30 October that also covers ticket-office staff and supervisors. CP’s own strike notice for 30 October warns of disruption and says knock-on effects may reach Thursday and Saturday.
The union wants the travel allowance raised this year and backdated to July, a deal on pay for work done on rest days, the 2025 and 2026 pay agreements formally published, and talks to revise the company agreement.
Already have a ticket?
If you hold a ticket for an Alfa Pendular, Intercidades, Internacional, InterRegional or Regional train, you can get a full refund or swap to another train of the same type and class at no cost.
Bought online? Use the Pós-Venda area on CP’s website or “As minhas viagens” in the app, up to 15 minutes before departure. At a ticket office, you can sort it out before or after your travel date, up to 10 days after the strike ends.
Best advice for Friday: check your train the evening before.
