God of War Laufey slips three months to May 20

Santa Monica Studio has moved the PS5 game from February 16 to May 20, 2027, citing final polish. The Kratos-led sequel it announced alongside Laufey is still on.

February is off. Santa Monica Studio said on X on Wednesday that God of War Laufey will now launch on May 20, 2027, three months (93 days, if you are counting) after the February 16 date it had been holding.

The reason is the one every delayed game gives. The studio thanked players for the excitement since June’s reveal and said it wants the extra time for finishing touches, to get the game to its “fullest potential”. It did not say what still needs work, and the official PlayStation Store page was still showing the old date on Wednesday evening.

Faye finally gets the lead

Laufey is the giant name of Faye, Kratos’s wife, who dies before the 2018 game opens and has only ever existed in other characters’ memories. This time she is the one you play. Revealed at the June 2 State of Play with 20 minutes of gameplay, the game is set in the Everywhen, an afterlife where gods from several mythologies fight over power, and Faye spends it trying to shield her husband and son from plans she herself set in motion. Sekhmet, the Egyptian lioness goddess, is among the gods in her way.

It runs alongside God of War (2018) and Ragnarök rather than after them, which is why fans expect it to close some of the series’ open questions. Ariel Lawrence directs, and Deborah Ann Woll voices Faye.

Kratos waits his turn

None of this touches the bigger plan. Santa Monica has already confirmed another Kratos-led game that ties directly into Laufey’s story, so the 2027 picture is now one God of War in May and another with no date at all.

The franchise is having a bumpy year off the console too, with Prime Video’s series forced to find a new Kratos after Ryan Hurst’s summer injury. At this rate Faye may well reach players before her husband reaches the small screen.

Hackers drained about €100 million from French bank Crédit Mutuel Arkéa (and never touched a customer account)

The bank says the attackers came in through a supplier's platform and used the group's own account to wire money to other banks, where it was likely converted into crypto. Part of it has been frozen, and Paris prosecutors have opened an investigation.

Crédit Mutuel Arkéa, the banking group behind Crédit Mutuel's Brittany and South-West federations, has been hit by a cyberattack that siphoned off close to €100 million. The money did not come out of customers' accounts. It came out of the bank's own. The group disclosed the attack on Wednesday and a few hours later put out a second statement answering the obvious questions. It will not confirm the €118 million reported by the regional press, but it…

France's blood service says hackers reprogrammed cold rooms holding transfusion plasma

The Établissement français du sang confirmed on 3 November that attackers got into a contractor's control system and pushed temperature and defrost limits to very high values at three sites storing plasma. It was caught in time and nothing was lost. It happened the same night as the supermarket fridge attacks across Europe.

The wave of attacks on refrigeration systems that warmed up supermarket fridges across Europe did not stop at the dairy aisle. The Établissement français du sang (EFS), the French public body that collects and supplies blood, has confirmed that hackers tampered with cold rooms at three of its sites, where bags of plasma were being stored. It happened on the night of 1 to 2 November, the same night seven Intermarché stores in Portugal and dozens of…

Seven Intermarché stores in Portugal were caught in Europe's supermarket fridge hack

Overnight into Monday, a cyberattack on an outside contractor that runs refrigeration hit seven Intermarché stores in Portugal, the same night dozens of supermarkets in Belgium, Sweden, Ireland, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Estonia saw fridge temperatures climb. Three Portuguese stores had to throw food away. Police and the national cybersecurity centre are assessing it.

Seven Intermarché supermarkets in Portugal had their refrigeration systems hit by a cyberattack in the early hours of Monday. It was the same night that fridges and freezers in dozens of stores elsewhere in Europe started warming up with nobody in the shop touching a dial. Grupo Os Mosqueteiros, which runs the chain in Portugal, confirmed the incidents to RTP and said the target was an outside contractor that manages the stores' refrigeration. It hasn't…

Fake nuclear alerts hit phones in Ukraine, then in Russia, within hours

Ukraine's Air Alert app was hijacked on Sunday night and pushed false warnings of chemical and radiation threats and street fighting. Early on Monday, the Russian Emergencies Ministry's app sent fake notifications about nuclear warheads. Nobody has claimed either attack.

On Sunday night, phones across Ukraine lit up with warnings of nuclear, chemical and street-fighting threats. None of it was real. The app sending them, Air Alert (Povitriana Tryvoha), had been hijacked. Shortly after 11pm Kyiv time, the Ukrainian Air Force posted a short message: the app had "probably come under enemy influence" and there was no radiation threat at all. Stay calm, it said, and follow the official channel. Besides the chemical and…

Intel beat its own numbers. Then lost 28.6% of its value in a day

Third-quarter revenue came in at $16.5 billion, up 21%, with data-centre growth the strongest in 15 years. What sank the stock was the outlook: $15-16 billion for the fourth quarter, and a PC slowdown Intel expects to last at least into mid-2027.

On Thursday evening Intel published results that were better than Wall Street had expected. On Friday its shares fell 28.6%. Both of those things are true, and the reason sits in a single line of the release: what the company expects for the next three months. In its third-quarter results release, Intel reported revenue of $16.5 billion, up 21% on a year earlier. Adjusted earnings per share were $0.52, more than double last year's $0.23, and the adjusted…

Reddit is going logged-in-only, and it will test the switch outside the US first

In its Q3 shareholder letter on 29 October, CEO Steve Huffman said Reddit is shifting to a logged-in-only experience, with full tests in select markets outside the US starting in Q4. Search referrals fell by more than a million visits a week in October.

Reading Reddit anonymously is on its way out. In the third-quarter shareholder letter published on Thursday 29 October, chief executive Steve Huffman wrote that Reddit is shifting to a "logged-in-only experience". Full tests start in the fourth quarter in select markets outside the United States. Reddit has not said which markets. What it did say is that the results will shape an "optimized version" of logged-in-only Reddit to roll out globally.

Gemini 4 Carbon is here, but you can’t use it yet

Google unveiled Gemini 4 Carbon on 28 October with state-of-the-art cybersecurity scores, including 54.8% on ExploitGym. Access starts with a vetted group of cyber defenders and widens slowly. Developers and consumers have no date.

Google has a new top model and almost nobody is allowed to touch it. Gemini 4 Carbon, announced on Wednesday by Google DeepMind's Koray Kavukcuoglu, is pitched as the company's strongest yet, especially at cybersecurity and long, multi-step tasks. It comes just two weeks after Gemini 4 Argon. The reason for the locked door is in Google's own numbers. On SEC-bench Pro, which tests whether a model can find security holes in real software, Carbon scored…

Apple finally lets you touch a Mac (it starts at $2,899)

The new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro brings the first touchscreen to a Mac, a tandem OLED panel Apple calls PROLED XDR, the Dynamic Island and M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. Pre-orders opened on 28 October in 30 countries, with deliveries from 6 November.

For years Apple said no. On Wednesday it said yes. The new MacBook Pro is the first Mac you can touch, and Apple's own announcement opened pre-orders the same day. Touch is only half of it. The other half is the screen, which Apple calls PROLED XDR: a tandem OLED with two layers of self-lit pixels. Apple quotes up to 2,000 nits, a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio, a variable refresh rate up to 120Hz and coverage of both the P3 and Adobe RGB colour spaces.

Siri AI speaks Portuguese now (Portugal's iPhones still can't hear it)

iOS 27.2, released on 26 October, brings Apple's new Siri AI to five more languages, Portuguese among them. In the European Union it remains blocked on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch because of the Digital Markets Act, with no date from Apple. On the Mac it works, but only in English.

Apple released iOS 27.2 on 26 October, and its headline feature arrives with a footnote for anyone in Portugal. Siri AI, the rebuilt Siri that runs on the new Apple Intelligence, now speaks French, Japanese, Korean, Spanish and Portuguese. Until this week it was English only. The footnote is the EU. Siri AI is still unavailable on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch in every member state, Portugal included, and this update does not change that. The reason has…

How much is the new iPad mini in Portugal? €769, which is €150 more than last time

Apple's new iPad mini gets an 8.5-inch OLED screen, the A20 Pro chip, a 5.4 mm body and IP67 water resistance. In Portugal the 128GB Wi-Fi model is €769, up from €619 for the 2024 model. Pre-orders open 28 October, stores on 6 November.

Apple's smallest iPad has just had its biggest overhaul. The new model unveiled on Monday swaps the LCD for an 8.5-inch OLED screen, slims down to 5.4 mm and is now rated IP67 against water and dust. Inside is the A20 Pro, built on a 2-nanometre process. It also costs more. On Apple's Portuguese online store the 128GB Wi-Fi version is listed at €769. The previous iPad mini, with the A17 Pro chip, launched here in 2024 at €619. That is €150 more for the…

Who made Brazil's election AI posts? More than a third came from the candidates' own accounts

Fact-checker Agência Lupa's VigIA monitor confirmed 1,423 political posts made or altered with AI between 16 August and 22 October. About 54% carried no label, even though Brazil's electoral rules require one.

Brazil's presidential runoff ended on Sunday with Lula re-elected. It also closed the most AI-heavy campaign the country has seen, and the data on who made that content is not what most people would guess. Agência Lupa's VigIA monitor reviewed 1,486 suspect posts between 16 August and 22 October and confirmed that 1,423 had been made or altered with AI. The figures are in the project's third interim report, published the day before the vote.

Greece will keep under-15s off social media from January. Platforms, not parents, carry the can

Greek MPs passed the law overnight on 22-23 October, banning social media for children under 15 from 1 January 2027. Facebook, Instagram and TikTok must check every user's age, existing accounts included, and the state's Kids Wallet is one of the tools they can use.

Greece has gone from plan to statute. Parliament passed a ban on social media for children under 15 overnight on 22-23 October, and it takes effect on 1 January 2027. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis first floated the idea in April. Now it has a start date and someone on the hook. It passed on a majority vote. Governing New Democracy backed it, PASOK abstained, and SYRIZA, the Communist Party and other opposition parties voted against. The most…
