Tesla opened its Superchargers for free to people fleeing the wildfires

Tesla made charging free at five stations around Bordeaux and four in Spain, inside the areas evacuated because of the wildfires. The measure runs at least until 5 August.

People running from a wildfire rarely have time to think about battery percentage. That is the gap Tesla decided to plug: since midnight on 29 July, charging has been free at five Superchargers around Bordeaux — Arès, Bègles, Biganos, Bordeaux-Lac and Mérignac — and the measure holds at least until 5 August.

Where is Tesla charging free right now?

In France, at the five sites above, all inside or around the Gironde evacuation perimeter. In Spain, the company switched on the same waiver at stations in Castellón, Sagunto, Fuenlabrada and Majadahonda, in the areas under most pressure from the fires. There is no sign-up and no code: charging is simply not billed at those stalls while the measure lasts.

The idea did not come from head office. It started with a request from the Tesla owners’ club in France, which flagged drivers forced out of their homes without even time to plug the car in. It is one of those moments where evacuation logistics meet a very practical detail: an electric car on 15% battery and a queue of traffic leaving town is a genuine problem.

Does any of this reach Portugal?

Directly, no — no Portuguese stall is covered. Indirectly, yes, because plenty of Portuguese drivers take these roads in August, and because the same summer burning through the Gironde and Castellón has all of Portugal under warnings. The Gironde fire has already forced 220,000 people out, and charging networks have quietly become part of Europe’s civil-protection conversation.

The sceptical note is fair: gestures like this are also marketing, and Tesla knows it. But it is marketing that costs the company real money and solves a real problem for people on the road. Station status is on the official Tesla map.

Tesla will stop building the Cybertruck in mid-2027 to make more robotaxis

Elon Musk said on X on 6 November that Cybertruck production at Gigafactory Texas will wind down around the middle of next year to free space for the Cybercab, Tesla's driverless taxi. It is the second model Tesla has dropped this year, after the Model S and X.

The Cybertruck has an end date. Elon Musk posted on X that Tesla will start winding down production of the pickup at Gigafactory Texas, outside Austin, "around the middle of next year". The reason sits in the same sentence: the plant needs the floor space for more Cybercabs. Nvidia sinks 9% as the Nasdaq has its worst day since April 2025

New York's tech-heavy index closed Thursday down 5.52%, its biggest one-day fall since the April 2025 tariff shock. Chipmakers lost more than 12% as Wall Street repriced the AI build-out after the midterms and reports that China is holding back H200 imports.

The Nasdaq Composite, home of Wall Street's big tech names, closed Thursday 5 November down 5.52%. That is 1,421 points gone, a close of 24,315, and the index's worst day since April 2025, when the US tariff announcement rattled every market at once. Hackers drained about €100 million from French bank Crédit Mutuel Arkéa (and never touched a customer account)

The bank says the attackers came in through a supplier's platform and used the group's own account to wire money to other banks, where it was likely converted into crypto. Part of it has been frozen, and Paris prosecutors have opened an investigation.

Crédit Mutuel Arkéa, the banking group behind Crédit Mutuel's Brittany and South-West federations, has been hit by a cyberattack that siphoned off close to €100 million. The money did not come out of customers' accounts. It came out of the bank's own. Santa Monica Studio has moved the PS5 game from February 16 to May 20, 2027, citing final polish. The Kratos-led sequel it announced alongside Laufey is still on.

France's blood service says hackers reprogrammed cold rooms holding transfusion plasma

The Établissement français du sang confirmed on 3 November that attackers got into a contractor's control system and pushed temperature and defrost limits to very high values at three sites storing plasma. It was caught in time and nothing was lost. It happened the same night as the supermarket fridge attacks across Europe.

The wave of attacks on refrigeration systems that warmed up supermarket fridges across Europe did not stop at the dairy aisle. Seven Intermarché stores in Portugal were caught in Europe's supermarket fridge hack

Overnight into Monday, a cyberattack on an outside contractor that runs refrigeration hit seven Intermarché stores in Portugal, the same night dozens of supermarkets in Belgium, Sweden, Ireland, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Estonia saw fridge temperatures climb. Three Portuguese stores had to throw food away. Police and the national cybersecurity centre are assessing it.

Fake nuclear alerts hit phones in Ukraine, then in Russia, within hours

Ukraine's Air Alert app was hijacked on Sunday night and pushed false warnings of chemical and radiation threats and street fighting. Early on Monday, the Russian Emergencies Ministry's app sent fake notifications about nuclear warheads. Nobody has claimed either attack.

On Sunday night, phones across Ukraine lit up with warnings of nuclear, chemical and street-fighting threats. None of it was real. Intel beat its own numbers. Then lost 28.6% of its value in a day

Third-quarter revenue came in at $16.5 billion, up 21%, with data-centre growth the strongest in 15 years. What sank the stock was the outlook: $15-16 billion for the fourth quarter, and a PC slowdown Intel expects to last at least into mid-2027.

Reddit is going logged-in-only, and it will test the switch outside the US first

In its Q3 shareholder letter on 29 October, CEO Steve Huffman said Reddit is shifting to a logged-in-only experience, with full tests in select markets outside the US starting in Q4. Search referrals fell by more than a million visits a week in October.

Reading Reddit anonymously is on its way out. In the third-quarter shareholder letter published on Thursday 29 October, chief executive Steve Huffman wrote that Reddit is shifting to a "logged-in-only experience". Full tests start in the fourth quarter in select markets outside the United States. Reddit has not said which markets. What it did say is that the results will shape an "optimized version" of logged-in-only Reddit to roll out globally.

Apple finally lets you touch a Mac (it starts at $2,899)

The new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro brings the first touchscreen to a Mac, a tandem OLED panel Apple calls PROLED XDR, the Dynamic Island and M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. Pre-orders opened on 28 October in 30 countries, with deliveries from 6 November.

For years Apple said no. On Wednesday it said yes. The new MacBook Pro is the first Mac you can touch, and Apple's own announcement opened pre-orders the same day. Touch is only half of it. The other half is the screen, which Apple calls PROLED XDR: a tandem OLED with two layers of self-lit pixels. Apple quotes up to 2,000 nits, a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio, a variable refresh rate up to 120Hz and coverage of both the P3 and Adobe RGB colour spaces.

Siri AI speaks Portuguese now (Portugal's iPhones still can't hear it)

iOS 27.2, released on 26 October, brings Apple's new Siri AI to five more languages, Portuguese among them. In the European Union it remains blocked on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch because of the Digital Markets Act, with no date from Apple. On the Mac it works, but only in English.

Apple released iOS 27.2 on 26 October, and its headline feature arrives with a footnote for anyone in Portugal.
