Sigur Rós return to Porto this Sunday, 13 September, and they are bringing company. The show at Coliseu Porto Ageas puts the Sinfonietta de Lisboa and the Ricercare Choir on stage alongside the Icelandic trio.
This is The Orchestral Tour, the run in which the band works with local musicians in each country rather than hauling an orchestra around the world. The set leans on ÁTTA, their 2023 album, with room for older material.
Porto tickets run from €40 to €140 depending on where you sit.
What a room like this does to the songs
The Coliseu holds roughly three thousand people and was built for voices and strings, which changes the scale of this music considerably. Anyone who has heard Sigur Rós at a festival knows how the sound opens up and thins out in the open air. That does not happen indoors.
One practical note. With an orchestra and a choir to set up, the changeover is long and doors often open later than usual, so check the time printed on your ticket before you leave.
September is busy, north and south
There is plenty else on. Placebo close out the month in Lisbon at Campo Pequeno, and from the 18th to the 20th the interior hosts Chronosphere in Góis, which offers something entirely different.
Buy only from official sellers. That means the Coliseu box office and Ticketline, plus the usual counters at Fnac, Worten and El Corte Inglés. Resale sites carry no guarantee, and in a venue with numbered seats that is exactly where the trouble starts.
